Duomo of Milan

The Duomo of Milan…impressive and imposing Gothic and Neo-Gothic structure. This dominates the square and the whole area for that matter.

Yes, we went to the top after visiting the massive structure inside.

Shapes everywhere you look.

Viewing the streets below…

Viewing through all the pinnacles…

Viewing across the roof tops…

What a day and what a wonderful piece of history.

Summer Flights

How Far in Advance Should You Book Your Flight?

Planning on traveling by plane somewhere this summer? With that in mind, when it comes to summer flights the early bird almost always gets the best deals. Ideally, you should start shopping about three months in advance of your departure date especially if you’re planning to travel on or around some of the highest flying days. Plus, if you’re not looking to travel right around the holidays you should still be able to find a decent deal by booking about four to six weeks ahead of time.
Most summer airfare sales require a 21-day advance purchase. Therefore waiting until the last minute is unlikely to save you money and will almost certainly cost you. If you have flown anywhere recently you probably noticed the airlines have gone to great lengths to reduce capacity. They are no longer flying planes with empty seats. Consequently, the seats that are available generally sell out. So don’t wait and wait and wait. Plan ahead.

Napa Valley

Budget Travel recently listed precious places in the world that are in danger of going away. On this extensive list were the wine regions of the world…including Napa Valley. Why?

With changes in heat and cold affecting soil conditions, growing quality grapes could be harder to do. Their solution…buy wine! Why? They figure by adding more money to the wine industry, more money can then be spent on developing ways to deal with these changes and on technology to keep grapes healthy.

Credit Card Benefits

If you use a Visa credit card check for the word “signature” on it. You may not realize it but you automatically have access to concierge service and emergency service as well as rental car insurance. Concierge service can assist you with reservations for restaurants. If you have paid with that credit card for your trip, you will also receive travel accident insurance and lost luggage reimbursement. Is your Visa card affiliated with any particular airline? Are you signed up for that airline’s mileage program? Check it out and see what benefits you may have with your Visa card.

Some Master Cards have additional benefits as well, especially if it is a US Airways, Best Western, or Chase Freedom branded Master Card. Perks vary from luggage reimbursement to accident and trip cancellation insurance. Check out what your card has.

American Express set the bar several years ago for travel perks. Not surprising as they began as a travel agency business in 1915 and introduced their credit cards in the 1950s. If you travel with an American Express card, be sure to register with their Membership Rewards program. Many travel benefits are associated with that.
